The School of Data and Sciences at BRAC University, in collaboration with ICTP: International Centre for Theoretical Physics and ICTP PWF: Physics For Bangladesh, proudly presents the Jamal Nazrul Islam Memorial Winter School 2025. This unique program offers participants an incredible opportunity to explore cutting-edge ideas in theoretical physics, deepen their understanding of the universe, and connect with a global community of leading scientists.
This Winter School is a series of highly technical lectures for undergraduate and graduate students of Bangladesh. The theme of the school is quantum gravity, particularly string theory approaches to cosmology and black hole physics, as well as aspects of mathematical physics. The lectures will be conducted by world-renowned experts, offering students comprehensive training to help ease their academic pathways into these advanced fields.

Prof. Fernando Quevedo is a distinguished theoretical physicist specializing in string theory, phenomenology, and cosmology, and the former Director of ICTP. Prof. Quevedo has been honored with the John Wheatley Prize, the Spirit of Salam Award, the Abdus Salam Medal, and many more accolades.

 

Prof. Michele Cicoli is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy "Augusto Righi" at the University of Bologna, specializing in string theory and its phenomenological implications. Since 2017, he has served as the local coordinator of the INFN research group on String Theory & Fundamental Interactions (ST&FI).

Prof. Ashoke Sen is a renowned theoretical physicist and expert in string theory. Prof. Senโ€™s research spans S-duality, black hole entropy, and superstring perturbation theory. His numerous accolades include the G.D. Birla Award, TWAS Prize, Infosys Prize in Mathematical Sciences, Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, Padma Bhushan, and Dirac Medal.

Prof. Suvrat Raju is a leading theoretical physicist specializing in quantum gravity and quantum field theory. Prof. Raju has received the Nishina Asia Award, the ICTP Prize, and other prestigious honors.
